Based on criteria within the Islamic faith, Halal is all about foods that are are allowed and how they are prepared.
Halal is an Arabic word meaning "permissable". Halal foods are foods that Muslims are allowed to eat or drink under Islamic Shari'ah. The criteria specify both what foods are allowed, and how the food must be prepared, which most importantly addresses meat and animal products.
The most common example of non-halal food is pork. While pork is the only meat that cannot be consumed by Muslims at all, foods other than pork can also be non-halal (haraam). The criteria for Halal foods include it's origin, cause of animal's death and how it is processed and prepared.
